Autogenous bone grafts from the jaw region is regularly used in rebuilding the alveolar crest in single tooth gaps and distal extension situations, whereas reconstruction of the severely atrophic maxilla and mandible (upper and lower jaws) as well as large edentulous spaces often require a complex treatment strategy using bone from the iliac crest.
In complex situations implants are often placed in a staged approach, allowing a better result in terms of osseointegration and handling of the pink.
